How to make a game without coding

You think up the game, and Chatforce builds a version you can play in the browser. Animation: Chatforce.

To make a game without coding, describe the game in plain language, choose 2D or 3D, and let Chatforce build a playable browser game. You then improve it by asking for changes in chat, publish it, and share the link. Friends can play without an account.

Example prompt: Make a 2D platformer about a small robot climbing a dark clock tower. The robot lights lamps to reveal the next platforms, and each lamp burns out after twenty seconds. Use warm pixel art and calm music.

What you need before you start

You need a game idea and a browser. You do not need to learn a programming language, a game engine or a visual editor, and you do not set up hosting. Chatforce is a no-code game maker: you describe the game, and Chatforce builds it. If you are stuck for an idea, start from the Chatforce blog or a game you already like.

7 steps to make a game without coding

  1. Write down the game idea

Describe the game in a few plain sentences: who the player is, what they do, how they win or lose, and the mood you want. No design document or code is needed.

Orbital Bastion cover art: armed satellites orbiting the Earth
One clear idea is enough. Orbital Bastion started from satellites that orbit the Earth, level up and fuse together.
  2. Choose 2D or 3D

Pick 2D for side views and top-down maps, or 3D for a real-time world with models, lighting and a directable camera. You choose when you create the game, and the choice cannot be changed later.

Sunset Bay Aces, a 2D bullet hell, next to Slamboni, a 3D arcade game
A 2D game (Sunset Bay Aces) next to a 3D game (Slamboni), both made with Chatforce.
  3. Describe it to Chatforce

Type the idea into a chat with Chatforce. You can add a sketch or reference image to show the look you want.

  4. Let Chatforce build a playable game

Chatforce writes the code and makes the art, music and sound effects. A first playable browser game takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Sky Roomba cover art: a flying vacuum drone over the Toronto skyline and orange haze
Sky Roomba, a 2D arcade game made with Chatforce: you fly a vacuum that cleans smoky haze out of the sky before time runs out.
  5. Play it and iterate in chat

Play the game, then ask for changes in plain language, such as a slower enemy, a new level or a different art style. You can also upload reference images, choose a stylized font, or paint over concept art to show what you want.

  6. Add multiplayer if you want it

Ask for online multiplayer when it suits the idea. It works for up to 8 players in both 2D and 3D games. The multiplayer guide covers how to plan a game for several players.

Garden Guard Co-op cover art: friends defending a garden from a giant centipede
Garden Guard Co-op, a 3D co-op game made with Chatforce, where you and your friends defend a garden from a creeping centipede.
  7. Publish and share the link

Publish the game to get a browser URL. Friends can play it on a computer or phone without an account, and published games have no watermark.

Maple Tap Frenzy cover art: a retro idle clicker about maple syrup
Maple Tap Frenzy, a published idle clicker that anyone can play from its link.

Tips for a better first version

  • Start small. One level with a clear goal is easier to judge than a whole campaign.
  • Name the controls and the lose condition. Those are the details most first prompts leave out.
  • Change a few things at a time, so you can tell which change helped.
  • Play it on a phone too. Every game ships with on-screen touch controls.
